Holger Heap is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) with clinical and professional experience in the substance abuse and recovery setting. Holger earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University and his Master of Science Degree in Counseling from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a member of the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA) and has his national certification (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). In the fall of 2021, Holger will begin the doctoral program at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision. Holger approaches counseling from an integrative theory model, tailoring his interventions to the needs of each client. He finds the counseling relationship is of utmost importance and focusses on it from the beginning. Using an existential model as a foundation, he also employs a cognitive-behavioral approach so patterns of thoughts and behaviors are explored in order to better understand the clients’ problems and to develop solutions. When he isn’t working, Holger enjoys fishing, cornhole, cooking, bowling, and golfing – pretty much anything that involved spending time with family and friends.
