Prior to that she worked for The GROVE recovery center as a recovery advocate. This is when she discovered, she wanted to become a substance-abuse counselor. Desiree has always had a servant’s heart and wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. Desiree realized after struggling with her own hurts, habits and hangups, that others have them too. This world is full of hurting people. Hurting people, hurt people. We must confront the hurt we deal with to conquer it. Desiree believes the mind is the battlefield and Acceptance is the key.
Through her time as a recovery advocate at The GROVE, she came to understand this more and more as she listened, and encouraged those who came through the program. Desiree has expressed how fulfilling it was to be a recovery advocate and says that it was the best time of her life.
Desiree says, “All this could not be possible without God; without God I am nothing.” Desiree’s journey continues and she is excited to join the family as an IOP Counselor in Training.
